Joey Porter fined once again…
In response to the fines for Channing Crowder and Matt Light, The NFL has also fined Joey Porter for “verbally abusing” the opposition after the play was over. And in Logan Mankins words leading to the fight between Crowder and Light.
“Any time you have a team with the guy 55 (Joey Porter), he just won’t shut up the entire game,” Mankins said. “Then I think some of the other guys are starting to play the way he does.”
The NFL fined Porter, $7,500 for Unsportsmanlike conduct officially. Porter had two unnecessary roughness calls in the 4th quarter of the game when players had been warned by referees as tempers began to flare that inappropriate behavior would be punished. And so it did, Justin Smiley was also fined $5,000 for an illegal cut block in the 4th quarter of the game.
Just a quick commentary about these fines, but these are getting ridiculous… It seems as if, if you see a penalty that didn’t get called and the opposing teams want to make you suffer you send in tape and get a fine for a player. Not many times during Tagliabues stint did you hear about fines being handed out for illegal blocks or anything else of that type but now with Goodell in you get it all the time. It seems like NFL players are now going to be scared to do things and it seems like its only a detriment to football. I think the NFL needs to cut down on the amount of fines and get back on track to make the NFL a better industry not focused on disciplining the players.
