Joey Porter fined once again…

November 28, 2008 · Filed Under Uncategorized · Comment

In response to the fines for Channing Crowder and Matt Light, The NFL has also fined Joey Porter for “verbally abusing” the opposition after the play was over. And in Logan Mankins words leading to the fight between Crowder and Light.

“Any time you have a team with the guy 55 (Joey Porter), he just won’t shut up the entire game,” Mankins said. “Then I think some of the other guys are starting to play the way he does.”

The NFL fined Porter, $7,500 for Unsportsmanlike conduct officially. Porter had two unnecessary roughness calls in the 4th quarter of the game when players had been warned by referees as tempers began to flare that inappropriate behavior would be punished. And so it did, Justin Smiley was also fined $5,000 for an illegal cut block in the 4th quarter of the game.

Just a quick commentary about these fines, but these are getting ridiculous… It seems as if, if you see a penalty that didn’t get called and the opposing teams want to make you suffer you send in tape and get a fine for a player. Not many times during Tagliabues stint did you hear about fines being handed out for illegal blocks or anything else of that type but now with Goodell in you get it all the time. It seems like NFL players are now going to be scared to do things and it seems like its only a detriment to football. I think the NFL needs to cut down on the amount of fines and get back on track to make the NFL a better industry not focused on disciplining the players.

Dolphins Vs. Rams preview via Tim Graham

November 28, 2008 · Filed Under Uncategorized · Comment

Miami Dolphins (6-5) at St. Louis Rams (2-9), 1 p.m. ET

The Dolphins need to chalk up a victory to keep pace with the rest of the tightly bound AFC East.

They impressively rattled off four straight victories before losing at home last Sunday to the Patriots. That one defeat has the Dolphins tied for last place in the division with the Bills and two games out of first place with only five to play.

After going 1-15 last year, the Dolphins could lose all of their remaining games and still consider 2008 a significant improvement, but they’ve played so well that not making the playoffs will be a major disappointment in the organization.

A loss to the Rams would be a colossal blow not only to the Dolphins’ playoff hopes, but also to their psyches.

The Rams are that bad. They rank among the worst five NFL teams in every major statistical category except for passing defense, where they’re 21st.

Miami should be able to do whatever it wants offensively, although the team lost top receiver Greg Camarillo to a season-ending knee injury. Undrafted rookie Davone Bess and veteran Ernest Wilford should have greater opportunities to get involved.

Miami could feast on St. Louis’ careless offense. Miami is tied for third with a plus-8 turnover ratio. St. Louis is tied for 28th with a minus-7 ratio, thanks to 14 interceptions and eight fumbles.

Camarillo done for the season

November 24, 2008 · Filed Under Uncategorized · Comment

During Tony Sparano’s press conference he said about Camarillos injury that “Camarillo is not good – he’s done.”. Pretty much ending Camarillos impressive year at WR. While unfortunate it does allow for more WR’s to come out and perform to see if they deserve to be on this roster. Brandon London and Ernest Wilford will all try to take their shots at trying to replace the 3rd WR spot.

Sparano said on the situation “Ernest Wilford has been getting better and better every single week on the practice field. London has been doing some good things. Maybe not as consistent as I’d like it right now, particularly from a special teams standpoint. Even in practice sometimes. [London's] got to be a little bit more consistent. He plays a bit young sometimes, but he’s getting better.”

Wilford should look to get better in practice since hes just been standing around for the game getting paid big money for nothing. But London should look to be a big surprise just as Camarillo was this season. What is needed now is consistency from the WR position. Camarillo always caught the ball and looked for extra yards. Bess can do that, Ginn is more of a deep threat and we need to see what London and Wilford can do.

Wilford was brought in to be a reliable and durable pass catcher and London was brought in to be a special teams star. Now if Camarillo goes on the IR, that leaves room for an extra WR so who knows who else could be brought in. Maybe Anthony Armstrong could be brought in, or some other free agent WR.

Last year this time saying Camarillo would be out for the whole season nobody would really care, but now it is entirely different. It is amazing how a chain reaction of events can make something bigger.

Joey Porter has a blog…oh boy…

November 22, 2008 · Filed Under Uncategorized · Comment

Well it seems that Joey Porter is entering the blogosphere this week, He already says interesting things when not provoked to write on the internet so it should be interesting to see what he writes. Hes wrote nothing outlandish so far but heres his intro blog post….

Hey, this is Joey….…aka JPeezy or Peezy. If you’re gonna keep coming back, you can refer to me as Peezy.  Otherwise, it’s Mr. Porter of Joey.  Welcome to my 1st blog. I’m new to this computer stuff, so ya’ll might need to help me out a little.
So here’ s the rules of the Peezy Blog… If you write somethin, you have to always keep it 100, all the time.  But you better expect to get 100 in return…no BS ..  Believe me, I’ll know if you’re keepin’ it real.
Here’s my blog schedule…
Work Day Weekends – gotta do my thing…I can’t be messin on this thing when I got games to win.
Recap Monday – last day we can talk about the previous game (unless we killed ‘em)
Take Off Tuesday – I’m out…I need a day off too.
Whig Out  Wed – say whatever pops in your head – all comments welcome.
Tell the Truth Thursday – let me know what’s up with my game, our team or anything else…this is football talk.
Huckleberry Friday – that’s the day I name my Huckleberry for the upcoming game. The day I tell my Peezy loyalists, who’s going to take the wrath. Then you can watch it happen on gameday.
I may be writing some other stuff…but those are the days I’m gonna be peckin for sure.
We’re starting the schedule this week.  And this blog is just leting you know what’s up.  I did an interview with Rome, he wanted to know the difference between this year and last….I let him know it was the scheme, the coaches and the front office. It starts at the top….and everyone round this place knows the top’s in charge. A special shout out to my D coordinator, Coach Pasqualoni. He draws up the D that’s been letting me get to the QB’s and make plays that you’re all used to seeing. I told Rome that  I’m in a defense that features me and lets me make plays. It’s built around the weakside LB position. Since that’s me, it’s all good. Last year I was playing out of position with handcuffs on, so it made it hard to make plays.  But this D is for real.
That’s what’s up….check back, keep it real….keep it clean…and I’ll answer some questions for you.
Peezy Out.
He posted one, and heres the only “Porter” things he said…
Since it’s Whig Out Wednesday I can tell my people how I really feel…Lets see if they try and bully our field like when we were in New England everbody knows they won’t try that… not on my home field… il’ll be there waiting at the 50 yard line for anyone that feels tough enough to try it.
PTI sent me a shout out and got me on the show, good to see I’m starting to get some love…they talked smack about my play last year…obviosly that wasn’t me and I’m showing everbody that this is gonna be the last time we talk about that because I didn’t forget how to play football, period.
Should be interesting to see what he says in the future but heres the link to his blog http://www.joeyporter.com/ssp/blog .

ESPN Field Pass: Patriots Vs. Dolphins

Camarillo Resigned for 3 years

November 20, 2008 · Filed Under Uncategorized · Comment

Early in the offseason I wrote a post on how Camarillo could be out of the picture , but now he rose his way up the depth chart through out training camp and now he is the #1 receiver on the Dolphins despite only making the NFL minimum. Now the Dolphins gave him a 3 year deal worth $6 million dollars, A pretty good deal for the Dolphins and Camarillo.

Camarillo is suprisingly the leader in receptions in yards, ahead of Ted Ginn who already has a big contract and also way ahead of Ernest Wilford who was signed to a major offseason deal and is not even on the field.

Heres the story from ESPN…

Receiver Greg Camarillo’s breakout year with the Miami Dolphins has earned him a new contract.

Camarillo’s $6 million, three-year extension keeps him under contract through 2011. He leads the Dolphins with 49 receptions for 538 yards and one touchdown after catching a total of eight passes in his first two NFL seasons.

Camarillo said he reported for training camp merely hoping to make the team, but he has started every game.

Phins leading in Pro Bowl Voting

November 19, 2008 · Filed Under Uncategorized · Comment

ESPN.com has released some early probowl numbers and some Dolphins players are leading in them…

Running back: 1) Ronnie Brown, 284,794; 2) LaDainian Tomlinson, 263,584; 3) Chris Johnson, 240,049; 4) Marshawn Lynch, 154,637; 5) Maurice Jones-Drew, 147,703.

Brown hasn’t looked that good in some weeks but he still has a huge margin over Ladainian Tomlinson, If he keeps getting 100 yard games and a touchdown in atleast the rest of the games he should get in no problem. And it would be a great reward to get in his first Pro Bowl.

Tackle: 1) Jake Long, 108,943; 5) Michael Roos, 70,068.

It is very interesting that Long is leading despite being a rookie, There was a poll on The Phinsider asking what was the most likely thing that could happen this season and I voted Long goes to the Pro Bowl but I was still a little sceptical about it. Maybe just rookie tackles always get in, Joe Thomas last season, Jake Long this year?

Outside linebacker: 1) Joey Porter, 151,463; 2) Keith Bulluck, 117,856.

Really Porter leading is not that surprising he is leading in sacks and has led the Dolphins defense all season long, and unofficially being the bastard voice of the team. Hes pretty much assured of getting in being 34,000 votes ahead of Keith Bulluck.

Special teamer
2. Larry Izzo, Patriots (43,462)
3. Patrick Cobbs, Dolphins (41,895)

Cobbs definitely deserves some recognition for his work this year, despite being the 3rd RB. He has been getting alot of plays as of late and on special teams he is the heart, although the Special Teams is not that great which can be attributed to other players.

If the Dolphins have a Pro Bowler, It will be finally another name then Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor. Its the changing of times and Sparano, Parcells and Ireland have brought it forth.
