Productive use of the “Wildcat”
Everybody knows that the Dolphins use of the Wildcat is and intreval part of the offense, and if you did not know that. You are either living under or a rock or just don’t pay attention to football at all. Last week against the Texans, The Dolphins changed it up not just letting Ronnie or Ricky running it but doing a double reverse and giving the ball to Pennington to pass. Which resulted in a Patrick Cobbs catch and touchdown, and coincidentally that is what the Dolphins had to do to make the wildcat succesful.
In the first 2 weeks of its use the Dolphins mainly ran it with Ronnie and Ricky as eluded to before and that made it easy for teams to defend. Bring the Corners and maybe the safeties on the outside to rush, and bring in the linebackers and line into the middle and for the most part it would shutdown them barring an occasional success due to good blocking. San Diego did that for most of the game with some success in stopping it, but one play by Ronnie resulted in a touchdown.
The next week, which unfortunately I did not get to see but from the highlights and audio. I did hear about the Ronnie to Ricky to Pennington play, which is exactly what the Dolphins need to do with the Wildcat. They need creativity which is what originally got the Wildcat going. We can’t have what we had with Cameron and that was a run of the mill offense, The Dolphins do have a good QB and 2 good RB’s (maybe 3 depending on if Cobbs keeps it up), the line has been good but the weakness is the wide receivers. I love Camarillo and all that he has done for the Dolphins but he is not a “#1″ WR. On most teams he would be a #4 or #5, maybe even practice squad but he is the Dolphins #1 WR. This brings the need for creativity, the Dolphins can’t run the ball all game eventually the line would get tired and it would be obvious the Dolphins will throw it and become a predictable offense.
To become more creative more time and effort has to be put into changing the Wildcat and or another type of play. Although alot of work has been put into this system, If the Dolphins want to keep on winning the key is creativity. Get Ginn involved in the Wildcat, maybe have Chad Pennington comeback have Ronnie backward pass it to him and then let him throw it down the field to Ricky and maybe Ginn. Theres many things the Dolphins can do that will still awe teams and wonder what is going on. Running it on every team was good until they discovered it and the creativity will keep teams on their feet and that will lead to winning games
