T.O. and George Feel Bad for Taylor
Well since nothing else is going on more Jason Taylor news! Terrell Owens and Eddie George have come out and say that they support Taylor. Its all Parcells fault though and he should be scrutinized for doing so. They feel he has his players and he plays head games that annoy very many people. But look at what he has done with his teams, hes made most of them into winners. Heres what George had to say as well as some other players.
“If you’re not one of Bill’s guys, you’re not going to win,” George said. “So it looks like (Taylor) is not one of Bill’s guys and it may come to a point where he may end up somewhere else, and that’s not a bad thing.
“Bill likes to hand pick, go get the groceries, so to speak. That’s what Bill likes to do. It’s Bill’s program, and if Jason doesn’t fit in it, then he’s going to make sure (Taylor) knows that.”
Not surprisingly, the current and former players who walked the red carpet Sunday night and played in Taylor’s annual charity golf event Monday in Fort Lauderdale supported Taylor in the soap-operatic schism.
“He is the face of the franchise,” said Indianapolis Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney, whose agent, Gary Wichard, also represents Taylor. “Before him it was Dan Marino. When I think of Miami, I think of Jason Taylor.
“I think he should get a lot more respect than he’s getting.”
Hall of Fame left tackle Anthony Munoz said a veteran with Taylor’s track record should not be criticized for skipping mini-camps or even a large chunk of training camp.
“At that age you don’t need the beating that you take in camp,” said Munoz, who played all 13 of his NFL seasons for the Cincinnati Bengals. “You don’t need the wear and tear. … I think you need to be fresh once the regular season starts.
“I know a lot of coaches and GMs won’t like me for this, but at that point in your career if you can just get in a get a little bit (of work before the regular season) it’s fine. You do need (live action), but I don’t think four, five, six weeks is key at this stage.”
Taylor has two years remaining on his contract at $7.5 million and $8 million. He announced Sunday he wanted to play one more year. Those close to him believe he would come back for a winner.
Of Taylor’s wanderlust, Munoz said he understood. “You know you don’t have many snaps left.”
While I do agree that he has the right to skip offseason work outs because obviously hes a veteran, It would have been nice if he didn’t just side step the questions. So far all the anger from Dolphins fans has come in him lying alot about what he will do. I don’t think most of this goes back to Parcells at all. Its Taylors choice to do this and not Parcells. Heres what T.O. had to say.
“I think he plays too many head games with a lot of people,” said Owens, a six-time Pro Bowl selection who last season set a Cowboys’ record with 15 touchdown receptions.
Owens said he supports Taylor’s off-field interests and his plan to pursue opportunities in show business after his football career. Taylor, a six-time Pro Bowl selection at defensive end, has played his entire 11-year NFL career with the Dolphins and in 2006 was voted the defensive player of the year.
“What Jason was doing was beneficial for him,” Owens said of Taylor’s dancing on television. “It’s not football-related, it has to do with his personal life. Coach Parcells is way off base to criticize and call Jason out in the manner that he has. They’re starting to realize he is kind of out of touch with a lot of today’s athletes and things that are going on.”
I have no idea when Parcells criticized Jason Taylor, I think T.O. should read a little more because I have not seen Parcells involved at all. Yes he may be a little out of touch, but that is because he is an old school football coach. Parcells came in when their was no salary cap and free agency was not established yet, So he knew the knit and the grit of players getting paid cheaply for a job they would practically kill themselves for. So obviously he knows what hes doing, but he is not the coach. If people want to blame somebody, blame Sparano. Or just call him a yes man, because to some people all he does is take Parcells command.
