Dolphins Sign Shawn Murphy
There was a report on KFFL earlier in the day regarding the Dolphins signing Murphy but it was merely a sentence with not a single source. But now it is being reported by Armando Salugero in his blog.
The Dolphins will announce the signing of offensive guard Shawn Murphy in the coming hour or so. No financial terms are yet available.
Murphy, the team’s foruth-round draft pick, is expected to compete for a starting job this year along with veteran Steve McKinney and darkhorse second-year player Ikechuku Ndukwe.
Props to anyone who can tell me where Ndukwe went to school. Murphy, the son of former Atlanta slugger Dale Murphy, attended Utah State.
The Dolphins have now signed six of their nine draft picks, with second-rounders Phillip Merling and Chad Henne and third-rounder Kendall Langford still not on board.
This brings the mormon count on the Dolphins to six, Being the most in the NFL. But other than that, Murphy will be set to compete at RG with Donald Thomas and Steve McKinney. RG could be the weakest position on the line if Jake Long does do good and nobody really stands out at Guard. Training Camp will show more on how Murphy will perform this season and how he will fare against McKinney.
